October 13, 2022: John served as a presenter at the 2022 Annual Conference for the Florida Association for Student Success. He presented the findings and implications from his summer '22 action research on Hope, Positive Psychology, and Undergraduate Goal Attainment.
April 2022 - John was elected to Fellow status with the National Career Development Association. The NCDA "Fellow" distinction, one of the highest honors by the NCDA, recognizes members who have contributed to--and advanced--the career development profession throughout their career.
June 29 - July 1, 2021 – John Participated in the NCDA 2021 (virtual) Global Career Development Conference - A Kaleidoscope of Career Interventions in an Age of Uncertainty
July 14 - 16, 2020 – John Participated in the NCDA 2020 (virtual) Global Career Development Conference – Inspiring Innovation, Increasing Diversity, and Promoting Social Justice in Career Practice
June 5 & 6, 2020: Representing the Florida Career Development Association, John participated in the Florida Counseling Association's annual Leadership Development Institute (LDI). This year, in response to covid-19, LDI was held as a virtual event.
May 28, 2020: John completed training through the American Red Cross, Psychological First Aid: Supporting Yourself and Others During COVID-19. The course content is based on guidance from the American Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). This online course is designed for anyone interested in learning techniques for supporting mental health during the COVID-19 crisis.
February 27, 2020: John and Marshall served as Job Search Guides providing career coaching sessions for attendees of the Indeed.com Atlanta Job Market Event.
January 8, 2020 to Present: John and Marshall began facilitating the Indeed.com online Community, as expert Job Search Guides providing members with focused feedback, resources and techniques to support career exploration, a job search strategy or career transition.
Oct. 25, 2019 – John Participated in the NCDA Fall '19 Career Practitioner Institute - Practical Techniques and Strategies for Career Development Practitioners
January 26, 2019: John and colleague Marshall Tucker led the presentation, Positive Psychology Based Career Consulting, for the cohort of career consultants at the 2019 American Chemical Society Leadership Institute in Atlanta, GA.
October 27, 2018: John led the training session, Infusing Positive Psychology into Career Coaching and Beyond at the fall residency for graduate students in the Master of Science in Positive Psychology program at Life University; Atlanta, GA.
October 26, 2018: John attended the NCDA Regional Career Practitioner Institute in Portland, OR. He joined colleagues from the NCDA Credentialing Commission to present the information session, Are you Credentialed? We can help.
October 1, 2018: After 6 years in the Buckhead community, Two Roads Resources has relocated to 2900 Chamblee Tucker Road, Building 13, 2nd Floor; Atlanta, GA 30341. This new space offers conference and training rooms for our workshops and seminars.
June 20 & 21, 2018: John and Marshall attended the National Career Development Association (NCDA) Global Conference in Phoenix, AZ. They led the 4 hour training (PDI #2) on Becoming a Positive Psychology Ambassador. They also facilitated a 3 hour Jump Start session for participants looking to start their application for a professional certification from the NCDA Credentialing Commission.

June 28-30, 2017: John and Marshall attended the 2017 Global Conference of the National Career Development Association in Orlando, FL. John served as co-Presenter for session #401 Are You Certifiable? Five New Certifications offered by the NCDA Credentialing Commission.
April 6, 2017: John earns the Certified Master of Career Services (CMCS) designation - a professional credential intended to recognize the contributions of individuals who have mastered a variety of roles within the field of career services.
January 2, 2017: John is appointed as a member of the National Career Development Association (NCDA) Credentialing Commission. In December 2016, the Board of Directors of NCDA voted to transform the Credentialing Organizing Committee (formed in Spring 2016) into the new NCDA Credentialing Commission. This new Commission is launching 5 new competency based certifications for the career development industry [Certified Career Services Provider (CCSP), Certified Master of Career Services (CMCS), Certified Career Counselor (CCC), Certified Clinical Supervisor of Career Counseling (CCSCC), and Certified Career Counseling Educator (CCCE)]. As a commission member, my role is to contribute to the group's efforts to formalize and launch these new credentials throughout 2017. A specific area of focus is on assuring the quality and assessment integrity for the Certified Master of Career Services (CMCS) credential.
August 20, 2016: John served as a panelist at the C-Factor: Coles College Connection. This professional development symposium was sponsored by Coles College of Business at Kennesaw State University. This was an excellent opportunity for MBA and Executive MBA students and alumni to connect with each other and engage in conversations about leadership, the path to promotion and how to effectively making a career transition.
July 2016: The Atlanta Business Chronicle included John's comments in the article Returning to Work: Communication key for employees and employers.
May 16, 2016: John was pleased to be invited to present a LUNCH-N-LEARN discussion for the Marketing and Insurance Claims Association (www.MICA.org). The focus of the presentation was creating and leveraging your Linkedin profile.
April 21, 2016: John served as a faculty judge for the 21st Annual Symposium of Student Scholars and Undergraduate Research at Kennesaw State University; Kennesaw, GA.
March 25, 2016: John attended the second annual Georgia First-Year and Transition Studies Conference - a forum for faculty, staff, and administrators to share ideas, resources, and engaging pedagogy to enhance our work with first year and students in transition. The Keynote speaker was Dr. George Kuh, Director of the National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment.
November 10, 2015: John participated in “Executive Career Coaching Week” (Nov. 9-12) at Georgia State University’s Robinson College of Business. John met with students in multiple MBA cohorts who were seeking guidance on such issues as: resume writing, personal branding and career development planning.
October 29, 2015: John Completed professional development training, Building a Supportive Community - Identifying and Responding to Sexual Harrassment or Assault through Bridgeport Education.
October 25, 2015, Vinings, GA: John attended the Benefits and Practice of Mindfulness workshop presented by Angela and Dennis Buttimer of the Atlanta Center for Mindfulness and Well-being.
June 30 - July 2, 2015, Denver, CO: John will be attending the Global Career Development Conference of the National Career Development Association. This year's conference theme: Reimagining Life's Possibilities: Celebrating First Jobs Through Encore Careers.
May 1, 2015: John's article, Rediscovering Cultural Competetence - A Book Review and Interpretation, was published in Career Convergence Magazine. Gary Howard, author of We Can’t Teach What We Don’t Know, contends that in our classrooms, there is a striking disconnect between White teachers and a diverse student body. A compelling need exists to prepare an educational work force of predominantly White teachers to effectively teach to a diverse student population. Topics discussed certainly span career development in the school setting. Career Convergence is an online magazine from the National Career Development Association.
April 2015: John was initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi (PKP), in recognition of his academic work at University of Missouri-Columbia. John is a candidate for the Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in counseling psychology (August 2015). PKP the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.
April 15, 2015: John served on a discussion panel on leadership and communication at the 2015 Spring Conference & Expo of the Georgia Association of Water Professionals. The panel engaged attendees in discussions surrounding office rumors and gossip...You won't believe what I heard - and you shouldn't!
April 2, 2015: John served as a featured presenter for three sessions on Career Branding – Achieving Better Career Fit by Claiming and Promoting Your Professional Identity at Kennesaw State University’s Winter 2015 Career Training Expo. The sessions also covered key topics, such as resume writing, behavioral interviewing, and career transition.
March 24 & 31, 2015: John led a presentation and discussion to members of Christ Church of Atlanta. Topics included professional branding, the "achievements" based resume, leveraging your Linkedin profile, job search strategies, and behavioral interviewing technicques. February 19, 2015: John served as the instructor for a half day workshop, Resume Writing & Professional Branding, at the College of Continuing and Professional Education at Kennesaw State University. Identify your unique strengths, claim your area of specialty interest/expertise and start competing for a better fit career role!
February 7, 2015: John served as the instructor for a half day workshop, Discover the Hidden Job Market, at the College of Continuing and Professional Education at Kennesaw State University. This workshop focused on immediately engaging pro-active, rather than traditional passive, job search techniques. Better Materials + Better Resources + Better Strategy = Better Results!!!

April 29, 2014: John led a presentation and discussion to the members of the Job Network at Saint Mark United Methodist Church, Atlanta, GA. Topics covered included preparing for successful phone interviews and the three critical components of the interview.
April 26, 2014: John served as a guest presenter for a brunch session at Maggianos Perimeter Mall, hosted by Longview Wealth Management (LWM). Participants learned about the process of exploring and navigating career transitions…to get UNSTUCK! A big “thank you” to Susan Ganser at LWM for the invitation to speak to such a friendly group!

July 6, 2013: John served as a co-presenter of a Professional Development Institute (PDI) at the 2013 Global Career Development Conference of the National Career Development Association (NCDA), July 7-10, 2013, in Boston, MA, “Celebrating 100 Years of Career Development: Creating Hope, Social Justice, and Legacy”.
PDI #6 Private Practice and Career Consulting 101: For anyone interested in getting help and support in launching or strengthening a private practice, this workshop will provide practical information and inspiration. Instructors are an experienced group of private practice coaches and consultants. Topics include developing a clear vision, marketing, and best business practices. Co-Presenters included colleagues Karen James Chopra, Marie Zimenoff, Elizabeth Craig, and Meagan Kittrick.
May 7, 2013: John led a presentation and discussion to the members of the Job Network at Saint Mark United Methodist Church, Atlanta, GA. Topics covered included creating a compelling elevator speech and behavioral interviewing strategies.

October 29, 2012: John was the the guest on The Performance Difference radio show onAtlanta Business Radio. Host Laurie Genevish and John discussed career growth and transition.
October 9, 2012: Great discussion today at the Denning Technology & Management Program at Georgia Institute of Tecnology. Students asked some targeted questions and we shared thoughts on career values during a lunch-n-learn session. We explored ideas surrounding a core question, “As I start my career, what am I looking for to make it a strong fit?”
September 18, 2012: Really enjoyed leading the lunch and learn session on streamlining the online job application process for students in the Denning Technology and Management Program at Georgia Institute of Technology. Thank you Dr. Oldham, Lauren Howard and Leslie Perretti for the invite!

November 9, 2011:John participated in “Executive Career Coaching Week” at Georgia State University’s Robinson College of Business. John met with students in the Global MBA and Specialized Masters programs requesting guidance on such issues as: resume development and branding, job search strategies, interview coaching, and career mapping.
August 2011: John is awarded the Board Certified Coach (BCC) credential through the Center for Credentialing and Education Inc. This designation is in recognition of John’s depth of training and experience in the field of professional coaching.
June 2011: John receives the Master Career Development Professional (MCDP) credential through the National Career Development Association. The MCDP is one of the highest designations a career coach can achieve in the United States. John is one of only six professionals holding this credential in the state of Georgia.
June 14, 2011: John led a presentation and discussion on the parallel tracks of a pro-active job search strategy for the Job Network at St. Mark United Methodist Church, Atlanta, GA.
May 5, 2011: Mock Interviews with the Job Network at St. Mark United Methodist Church, Atlanta, GA. John was a panelist at this event to walk group members through mock interview sessions and and provide positive feedback on interview preparation.
May 3, 2011: Presentation to the Job Network at St. Mark United Methodist Church, Atlanta, GA. John provided group members with simple yet powerful techniques to successfully prepare for Behavioral Interviews.
February 17, 2011: John moderated a panel discussion on professional development at the national conference of the Association of Corporate Travel Executives.
October 22, 2010: John participated in “Executive Career Coaching Week” at Georgia State University’s Robinson College of Business. He provided one-on-one coaching to MBA and MHA students requesting guidance on such issues as: resume development, job search strategies, interview coaching, and career mapping.
September 2010: John joined the staff of Rasmussen College as an adjunct instructor leading students through E242, an undergraduate course in career development strategies.
August 4, 2010: John led a career development workshop for undergraduate students in the summer internship program at the Southern Arts Federation.

January 28, 2010: John was interviewed by April Williams of CNN Radio to gather information and perspectives for listeners on the topic of career transition and pursuing a second career..

John will meet with MBA students requesting guidance on such issues as: resume writing, job search strategies, interview coaching, and career development planning.
October 8, 2009: John will be a guest speaker at the annual meeting of the Credit Insurers Association. The topic for the presentation will be “Using the MBTI to Enhance Communication and Staff Development”.
June 2009: John will be leading a workshop for the Georgia State University Alumni Association on June 25, 2009, entitled “Your Career Transition Action Plan.”
May 2009: John was elected to the membership of the Society for Vocational Psychology and the Association for Coaching.
April 2009: John completed the Positive Psychology Immersion masterclass sponsored by MentorCoach. This 8-week class was led by Christopher Peterson, Ph.D., a leading figure in the positive psychology arena.
March 31, 2009: John will be a guest speaker at the Atlanta Women For Hire Career Expo at Cobb Galleria. His presentation will highlight Career Transition Strategies. Attendance is free!
February, 2009: John is participating in Executive Career Coaching week (02/16 – 02/20/09) at the GSU Robinson College of Business. He will also be serving on Robinson’s Healthcare Careers panel on 02/18/09.
November 7, 2008: John participated in the Fall ’08 Executive Career Coaching series at Georgia State University’s Robinson College of Business. John met with graduate students requesting guidance on such issues as: resume writing/personal branding, pro-active job search strategies, interview preparation and mapping a professional development plan.
October 10, 2008: John served as a career expert at the 2008 Conference & Career Expo for the the National Society of Hispanic MBAs held at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, GA. John met with MBA students and alumni from universities across the country, to provide feedback on resume writing, job search techniques and interview preparation.
September, 2008: John is included in the national directory of Career Experts at Women for Hire, the leading provider of career advancement services for professional women nationwide. Tory Johnson, founder and CEO of Women for Hire is also the Workplace Contributor onABC’s Good Morning America.
July, 2008: Atlanta Magazine. John is quoted in the July 2008 edition of Atlanta magazine. Here is an excerp from the article entitled, Love The One You’re With – The most wonderful cubicle in the world might just be your own, by Rachel Pomerance. “Enrolling in executive training is another way to stave off tedium. ‘That’s an area I think a lot of people ignore,’ says career coach John Long. ‘They don’t seek continuing professional development in the form of seminars and conferences and workshops that will keep them engaged in the field that they are in and keep them in touch with the latest and greatest information [that would allow] them to advance in their career.’ “
April 5, 2008: John was a featured speaker at Georgia State University’s Career Strategies Workshop for Robinson’s EMBA Students and Alumni.

February 2, 2008: John was the featured guest on WCFO’s (1160-AM) new Career Connections radio program. Listeners were presented with the primary steps in the career transition process. They also had the opportunity to call the show to ask John specific questions relating to their career path.
November 9, 2007: John hosted a teleseminar on the topic of Career Transition for the Georgia State University Alumni Association.
September 17 – 21, 2007: John participated in Executive Career Coaching week at Georgia State University’s Robinson College of Business. John was asked to meet with MBA students seeking guidance with specific career development topics.
